Mel hails from South Carolina and the home of the Marshall Tucker Band. Needless to say that growing up in the south in an era where music's most imfamous southern bands where born. It had set the stage for his vocal direction.
He made a somewhat brief stop in Texas and experienced that Texas boogie sound, eventually making his way to California. At that time he had no idea he would cross paths with the only west coast southern rock tribute band. After the band met and heard him, they knew that he was the one they were looking for. Mel won them over with his versatile ability to handle the wide range of southern artists in the bands set. And they quickly brought him into the Gator Alley family.
